Why Use Metagenics UltraFlora Control for Weight Management

Recent data from Statistics Canada shows that over 61% of Canadian adults are overweight or obese. The study measures obesity in terms of body mass index (BMI) and on its own the results are concerning. But even more startling, is that experts state that using BMI to measure obesity underestimates the national problem.

A lack of obesity does not clear the remaining 39% of the adult population, because a significant proportion of this group falls into the overfat category. Overfat is a medical term that refers to the presence of excess body fat that can impair health. Normal weight (for age, height, and gender) non-obese individuals with excess body fat have a greater risk of cardiometabolic dysfunction and more.

The overfat epidemic (and is it an epidemic) is growing in developed countries, and its prevalence is rising at a faster rate than that of obesity. The fact that nearly 85% of men and 69% of women in Canada are overfat, is downright alarming. Being overfat can lead to type-2 diabetes and can also cause inflammation which studies show to be at the root of many chronic diseases, including cancer and Alzheimer’s. When you consider that being obese or overfat can contribute to heart attacks, stroke, asthma, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and a slew of other ailments, and you can see that the call to keep weight and fat in check goes far beyond aesthetic reasons.

Now consider the implications for ostomates and/or individuals who may need surgery in the future. As an ostomate, you don’t want to add all of the above to your list of health and wellness concerns. For individuals who are overweight and are having surgery soon can expect the stoma procedure to be more complicated. With the number of obese, overweight, and overfat people in Canada on the rise, the number of those requiring ostomy surgery will rise proportionately.

So we’ve set the table. There is no denying the need to address the weight problem in Canada. In addition to eating better and becoming more physically fit, is there more that can be done? Is there a proverbial magical pill? Let’s find out.

Why You Should Use Metagenics UltraFlora Control to Complement Your Weight Management Plan

It’s Got the Right Stuff, for Your Gut

Bifidobacterium Lactis - Why Use Metagenics UltraFlora Control for Weight Management - InnerGood.ca Canada

Metagenics UltraFlora contains an important bacterial strain called Bifidobacterium lactis, also referred to as B. lactis. This probiotic bacteria gained notoriety after a recent study concluded that it can inhibit the toxic effects of gliadin in intestinal cell culture conditions, counteracting directly with the harmful effects exerted by coeliac-toxic gliadin. In layman’s terms, B. lactis is though to be an effective treatment for those with a low gluten tolerance

Further studies have shown other significant benefits of the intestinal microbiome. In particular, evidence is now pointing to a crucial factor that links B. lactis with regulation of body weight and body fat mass. This is rooted in a microbial imbalance known as Dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is linked to wide set of physical ailments, including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and gastrointestinal malignancy. For the purposes of this article, it must be noted that dysbiosis is also directly linked to obesity. How, you ask?

Let’s break down the basic meaning of Dysbiosis by developing a better understanding of your gut. The lining of your gastrointestinal track is covered in both good and bad bacteria. Together, these bacteria make up your gut microbiome (aka gut microbiota). Your gut microbiome can be helpful, neutral or harmful to your health. When your gut microbiome is unbalanced or is contrary to the norm, the condition is called dysbiosis. Simply put, when you’ve got dysbiosis you’ve got too much bad bacteria in your gut and not enough good stuff to combat its effects. When this is the case, it may not matter how often you exercise and restrict calories, carbs, or fat, you may still have issues losing weight. Sound familiar? You may have dysbiosis, and to beat it, you need to give your gut the key probiotic it needs – B. lactis.

While this important probiotic is naturally found in your intestines, it begins to decline with age. In addition, patients who have lost a portion of the small intestine along with the large intestine will have a significant lack of Bifidobacterium lactis.

In finding a B. lactis supplement backed by a guarantee of purity, clinical reliability, and predicted safety via scientific identification of strains with established health benefits, you will have found the means to achieving and maintaining gut integrity.

Research Highlights Weight Management Benefits of UltraFlora Control

Each Metagenics UltraFlora Control capsule contains Bifidobacterium lactis B-420 (10 billion CFU). In a six-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center clinical study of overweight individuals, those taking Bifidobacterium lactis B-420 exhibited the following:

  • Reduced appetite and thus reduced food intake of about 300 calories per day.
  • Increase in Short Chain Fatty Acids. SCFAs play a role in glucose and lipid metabolism, gut integrity, and immune function, and appetite supression. lncreased SCFAs have also shown to trigger the expression and secretion of anorectic gut peptides such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-l), peptide YY, and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide.
  • Controlled body fat
  • Controlled body weight
  • Decreased plasma Lipopolysaccharide levels
  • Decreased liver inflammation
  • Decreased levels of circulating zonulin (potential marker of gut barrier function and low-grade inflammation)

    1. Hi Marianne,

Thanks for your question. We are not familiar with the product ultraflora complete. We would recommend speaking with a Naturopath before adding supplements to your everyday heallth regiment.

With that said, individuals on our staff do take Ultraflora Control regularly and are pleased with its effectiveness.

      Best wishes!

    1. Hi Annie,

We don’t have specific advice about this, but we recommend that you get specific advice on this from your health care provider. A staff member here does take Ultraflora Control after breakfast in the morning.

      Best wishes.

    1. Hi Nicole,

Thanks so much for your question. We think it would be best to follow up with a health care professional with that question. Ultraflora Control is a probiotic which is intended to help with gut health so we are not quite sure how or if it could ever impact your kidneys.

      Thanks again,

      InnerGood
