Dr. Morad Hameed, MD MPH FRCSC FACS
Associate Professor and Chief, Divisions of General Surgery,
Vancouver Acute and University of British Columbia
Morad Hameed is a trauma surgeon and intensivist at the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He completed medical school and surgical residency at the University of Alberta, graduate studies in public health at Harvard University, and fellowships in Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Miami. He was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Calgary before moving to Vancouver. He currently serves as the Chief of the Divisions of General Surgery, Vancouver Acute and University of British Columbia. He is a past President of the Canadian Association of General Surgeons. His clinical and research interests are in trauma and acute care surgery, with a focus on trauma systems, social determinants of health, and health information technology.
Dr. Tuomas Jalanko, MD
Uro-oncology Fellow, UBC, VGH
Dr. Tuomas Jalanko is a uro-oncology fellow currently working at the Department of Urologic Sciences in UBC and Vancouver General Hospital. He graduated as a medical doctor in 2011 and received his Ph.D. degree on surgery in 2013 from Helsinki University, Finland. He became a specialist in urology in 2018. In 2016-2019 he worked at the Department of Urology in Helsinki University Central Hospital focusing on bladder cancer treatment. He came to Vancouver in summer 2019 to undergo a two-year fellowship in uro-oncology at UBC. In addition to his clinical fellowship at the hospital, he works as a research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Black.
